Every parent wants to be a great parent, and as a church, we want to provide opportunities and resources that will help parents grow into the parents that God is calling them to be. Parents are the most influential people in a child’s life, and because of that, we know that discipleship is not just something that happens within the 4 walls of a church building, but also in and beyond the 4 walls of the home.
Knowing that, we have created different workshops, led by parents in our church as well as a few guest speakers, to teach on a variety of topics that will help parents raise their children in Christian households. We hope that you will be able to join us in person when we host any live events.
UPCOMING WORKSHOPS
“READY FOR COLLEGE”
Setting Up Seniors for Success
Sunday, November 24th, 2024 | 12:00pm—1:30pm
Dominic chasse
Since 2020, Dominic has served as a Campus Minister for Campus Student Fellowship (CSF) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, VA. From students figuring out how to balance school, faith, work and relationships to having to learn simple life-skills as they have left the comfort of their parents homes, Dominic has seen students grow in great ways over the years, and he has also seen how they have struggled. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
“This workshop will equip parents of high school students, gaining skills and resources that will help them instill in their students, they ways they can succeed in their young adult years and continue to develop a lasting and multiplying faith.”
“DISCIPLESHIP”
HOW TO DISCIPLE YOUR KIDS
(Coming in 2025)
TJ Owen
TJ has served in student ministry since 2011, and whether he was training young Marines and Sailors how to work on life-saving equipment during his time in the Marines, or serving as a student leader and teaching them about the life-saving ways of Jesus, he has a passion for walking alongside young people and helping them grow. Since becoming the Family Minister at Area 10 in 2019, he has truly enjoyed getting to know, not only students, but parents and finding ways to empower them to take the lead in their children’s discipleship.
“When it comes to discipling kids, the Church is meant to be a place of resource, not a place to outsource. My intention for this workshop is not to tell parents how to parent, but to help them discover the best ways for them to disciple each of their children. God has charged them with an incredible call, and that is to teach their children about the person and ways of Jesus, so that one day, they can make their own decision to follow Him and reach the world around them.”
“EveryDay Strong”
building emotional safety, connection, and confidence in your children
(Coming in 2025)
Leanne Lytle
Leanne is an educator, truth teller and advocate who cares deeply about engaging in real conversations that impact outcomes for children and families. Her devotion to person-centered ideals has driven her to work in various roles spanning education, non-profit and faith-based sectors. Her work with diverse people and environments provides real-life grounding for her optimistic yet candid approach to programming, training and leadership. But the foundation for all of this work is her faith. She’s worked with kids in churches since she was a kid herself and has always fought to make spaces safer for children and youth. This has grown into an entire career in the education and youth serving profession. Before her current role, her work at United Way led to the launch of EveryDay Strong VA--the foundation for this faith and family session.
“God has designed humans in beautiful and predictable ways, and when we get what we need, we tend to thrive. All humans--especially children--need to experience safety, connection and confidence in the context of caring adult relationships in order to thrive the way God has designed them to. This session will unpack a simple framework to help us interact in ways that keep our kids “EveryDay Strong” and provide an opportunity to brainstorm ways we can build emotional safety, connection and confidence in our children and support one another in parenting our kids to be EveryDay Strong.”
