“CAUGHT, NOT TAUGHT”
Modeling Jesus for your Kids
Ken and LAVONNE WINTER
Ken and LaVonne have been married 44 years and are blessed to have four children (their original two, plus the two they married) and three grandsons (ages 6, 4 and 2 months). They are also some of the sweetest people you will probably ever meet. And if you find yourself around them for even a short period of time, it will not take long for you to see Jesus in them.
“When all is said and done, the most important ministry the Lord will have given us is raising our children ‘in the way they should go.’ Gratefully, God never required us to be perfect parents, nor our children to be perfect. But He did show us to seek Him first, and train up our children to do the same. We look forward to sharing a bit of our journey in how we have endeavored to do so – through what we have said . . . and even more importantly . . . through how we have imperfectly attempted to live it out. And we look forward to encouraging you in your journey.”
“TECHNOLOGY”
Benefits & Boundaries
PATRICK AND KATHERINE LEAHEY
Pat and Kat have been with Area 10 from the very beginning, and since then, they have become parents to two amazing kids: Mitchell (15) and Bella (10). They became foster parents in 2016 and have since had 5 children come through their home ranging in ages from 8 through 15. Through their experience with navigating the foster care system and children coming into their homes with technology, Katherine and Patrick have had to quickly learn how to educate themselves and their children to create boundaries.
Pat and Kat are passionate about creating safe methods to integrate technology into their children's lives because of the effects they know it can have on their self-confidence, self-esteem, relationships, social development, and overall mental health. While they are not claiming to be experts, they do have a lot of experience with implementing systems in their home to allow for building trust and independence with our children as they navigate technology. In this technological age that our kids are growing up in, we believe that this class is one that you won’t want to miss.
“GROWING CLOSER”
strengthening the relationship with your kids
Joe AND Kim Lacognata
Joe and Kim are from Belleview, FL and are the parents of 5 adult children, four of which are married and out of the house. And while their children are now older, they have been able to maintain a close bond with them in such a way that they are still investing in and discipling their kids and their families.
Joe is a Fire Chaplain and the founder of a non-profit called Fire Rescue Support, as well as a teaching pastor for a local church in Ocala, FL. Kim works for that same church as the Weekday Preschool Director. Throughout the years of raising their children, they have been extremely intentional about building relationships that would last a lifetime, with faith and discipleship being at the center of all they’ve done.
“DISCIPLINE & BOUNDARIES”
What it means & What it doesn’t
NEIL AND CAROLe WHEELER
Neil & Carole, married 48 years, are the proud parents of two adult daughters, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter. After 38 years of pastoring local churches, Neil now serves as Director of Leader Care with Waypoint Church Partners. Carole is retired from an 18 year career as an educator with Chesterfield Schools & Police Department.
We were and are far from perfect parents and often have had to apologize to our children for our discipline mess ups. But by God's grace, today both of our daughters and families are active leaders in their churches and serve in significant Christian Ministries.
We are so excited to be at A10 to share from our own experience on how to prepare your children for Eternity through a Biblical Lens of Discipline & Boundaries. We hope you will join us to for this practical discussion on how to trust Scripture - not culture, to create an environment in your home for your children thrive both now and for eternity with Jesus!
