What was Jesus about?  We all think we know.  He was the hippie love guy who was like super nice and eventually that got him killed right?  Well, what Jesus actually talked about most of the time might surprise.  In this message, we will look at what he was all about and look at some ways we can be all about it too.

03.22.20 - Signs of Life (Ch 32)

What happens when you feel alone?  What do you do when God seems absent?  How do we even know that God is there and that he hears our prayers?  In this message, we will look at the birth of Jesus-  not about angels shepherds and wise men—but more about what it all means for people who feel alone.  In this time when we are told to practice social distancing, we will look at how God does the opposite with us.

Of all the claims that Christianity makes, perhaps the hardest to believe is that God became flesh—the creator of the universe became like us- a man with a heart that pumped blood through his veins. In this 4 week series, we are going to look at this God-man, Jesus, and look at why he came and what he was all about and what he accomplished in his 33 years on earth. In studying him we will learn something about the heart of God for humanity and we will learn how we can join him in that love for people.

This week’s message aligns with Core 52 book, Chapter 32: Incarnation.

03.15.20 - Don't Freak Out! (Ch 48)

Life has a way of dealing out plenty of things that can cause us to worry. From breakups to job downturns to a global pandemic, it is incredibly easy to freak out. But scripture points the followers of Jesus to walk a different path; to stay calm in the storm; to give our anxiety to God. How can we do this? How can we just tell our brains to “not worry”? In this message, we will dig into our fears and look at how Jesus models a non-anxious presence in the world.

Wow! Isn't it amazing and totally like God to have this sermon planned out months before the Coronavirus was even on our radar? 01.26.20 - The Secret Life, Part 2 (Ch 21)

What does it look like to do a good thing and then not tell anyone about it? What value is there to keep quiet about something? In our social media age, the temptation is always there to broadcast our accomplishments. But Jesus challenges us to do good and do what is right but to do it quietly. In this message, we look at the idea of giving away money and how we can do that with the right hearts and motives.

This week’s message aligns with Core 52 book, Chapter 21: Money.

01.19.20 - The Secret Life, Part 1 (Ch 20)

Jesus was pretty critical of people who do things to be seen by others - especially when those are “religious” things: Praying so that others will notice you — giving money so that other people be impressed. In this message, we talk about the value of secrecy, and we will look at how Jesus taught us to pray. Prayer doesn’t have to be fancy or mystical. Jesus challenges us to keep it real and be our authentic selves as we pray.

01.12.20 - Getting It Right (Ch 19)

Everyone wants to do the right thing. Even the people who do terrible things, think they are somehow doing the right thing for them in the moment. But what does it mean to truly do what is right? Jesus challenges to dig deeper on morality and “doing the right thing” and look at our own hearts and motives. In this message, we hear the challenging words from Jesus and see how we can apply them.

01.05.20 - The Good Life (Ch 18)

Every now and then we hear something that seems unbelievable- something that makes us exclaim “For real?!” In this new series to kick off 2020, we will look at Jesus’s most famous teaching- the Sermon on the Mount and we will learn how he challenges us to be different than the culture around us with some powerful teaching that will make you say “For real?”  In this message, we will look at what makes a life a good life and we will see how Jesus’s idea of that is counter-intuitive.

12.22.19 - Cherished

We think of Christmastime as a season of giving, and that makes sense because the original Christmas story of the birth of Jesus is actually a giving story also. "God so loved the world that he gave his only son." In this message, we look at the true meaning of Christmas and explore what it means to be cherished by God.

12.15.19 - Called

Everyone in the Christmas story was chosen for a purpose. Mary struggled a bit with that calling from God, as did Joseph. In this message, we look at what it means to be called by God and how we can respond to God’s call in our lives. We also interview the Brents to learn the passion that God has placed on their hearts as a family.

Please note that the Brents will be living in an area that is sometimes hostile to Christianity, and so the exact location has been extracted from the audio. Thank you for understanding.

12.08.19 - Carried

Mary is told by God that she is supposed to carry God’s baby- a boy named Jesus. How terrifying was that for her? And while she was carrying God’s baby, who was going to carry her through this difficult time? In this message, we look at the idea that God carries or sustains us when we are in pain.

12.01.19 - Created

Two thousand years ago, when Jesus came to earth as a child, the world could not possibly foresee what that would mean for the history and fate of humanity. But God knew, and he had planned for this since before the dawn of creation. Join us this Advent season as we explore the implications of that Holy Night so very long ago.

11.17.19 - Death to Self

The book of Esther ends with the Israelites gaining victory over their enemies. In many ways, that feels satisfying as we all love a good underdog story. But for as many questions as it answers, it kicks up other hard questions about God’s judgment and wrath against a group of people. In this final message of the Esther series, we look at how God brings about ultimate justice and how we can experience his grace in the midst of justice.
